Getting Started with Aubook

Everything you need to know to get the most out of your audiobook experience.

Adding Audiobooks

Option A: Import via Finder (Mac)

  1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac
  2. Open Finder and select your iPhone
  3. Go to the Files tab
  4. Find Aubook in the app list
  5. Drag and drop your audiobook files (MP3, M4A, M4B, FLAC, WAV, OGG)
  6. Open Aubook - your books appear automatically!
Tip: Multi-file audiobooks are automatically grouped by folder.

Option B: Import from Dropbox

  1. Open Aubook and go to Settings
  2. Tap Dropbox under Cloud Services
  3. Sign in to your Dropbox account
  4. Navigate to your audiobook files
  5. Tap to download files or entire folders

Option C: Web Upload (Local Network)

  1. Go to Settings → Upload Audiobooks
  2. Toggle on the web server
  3. Open the displayed URL on any computer on your network
  4. Drag and drop files to upload
Tip: This is the fastest way to upload large audiobooks from your computer.

Free Audiobooks

LibriVox Audiobooks

Access thousands of free public domain audiobooks directly in the app.

  1. Tap the LibriVox button (headphones icon) on the main screen
  2. Browse popular titles or search for specific books
  3. Tap any book to see details
  4. Tap Download to save to your library

Project Gutenberg (Text-to-Speech)

Convert classic ebooks into audiobooks using AI voices.

  1. Tap the Gutenberg button (book icon) on the main screen
  2. Search for any book in the Project Gutenberg library
  3. Select a book and choose your preferred voice
  4. Tap Convert to generate the audiobook

Cached Audiobooks

Browse all preconverted books for instant download at half price.

  1. Tap the Download button (green arrow icon) on the main screen
  2. Browse or search the library of ready-made audiobooks
  3. Tap to download — uses 50% fewer credits than converting new

Playing Audiobooks

Basic Controls

Control Action
Play/Pause Tap center button
Skip Forward Tap ▶▶ (30 seconds)
Skip Back Tap ◀◀ (15 seconds)
Scrub Drag the progress bar
Speed Tap speed button (0.5x - 2.5x)

Chapter Navigation

  • Tap the Chapters button to see all chapters
  • Tap any chapter to jump directly to it
  • Current chapter is highlighted

Sleep Timer

  1. Tap the Moon icon
  2. Select duration (15, 30, 45, 60 min, or End of Chapter)
  3. Audio fades out gently when timer ends

Story Memory ("Previously In...")

When enabled, Aubook generates a brief AI recap when you resume a book after being away for an hour or more.

  1. Go to Settings → Story Memory
  2. Toggle it on
  3. Resume any book after a break to see your recap

Bookmarks & Notes

Creating a Bookmark

Tap the Bookmark icon while playing. A bookmark is saved at the current timestamp.

Viewing Bookmarks

  1. Tap the Bookmarks tab for current book
  2. See all saved bookmarks with timestamps
  3. Tap any bookmark to jump to that moment

Adding Notes

  • Tap a bookmark to expand it
  • Tap Add Note to write your thoughts
  • Notes are saved automatically

Text-to-Speech

Convert URLs to Audio

Turn any article or webpage into an audiobook.

  1. Go to Settings → Create from URL/Text
  2. Paste a URL or enter text directly
  3. Choose your preferred voice
  4. Tap Generate
Safari Shortcut: Use the Share button in Safari → Aubook to send articles directly to the app.

Voice Options

Aubook offers multiple AI voice engines:

  • Azure — Natural-sounding premium voices
  • Polly — Wide range of voices and languages
  • Piper — Fast, efficient voices
  • LemonFox — Additional voice options

All voices are included at no extra cost — you only pay per word converted.

Smart Caching

If the same URL has been converted before with the same voice, you'll get instant playback at no cost. This works across all users!

Credits System

How Credits Work

  • 1 credit = 1,000 words of text-to-speech conversion
  • Credits never expire
  • All new accounts receive 20 free credits
  • Playing your own audiobooks is always free — no credits needed
  • LibriVox downloads are free — no credits needed

Buying Credits

  1. Go to Settings → Credits
  2. Choose a credit pack
  3. Complete the purchase with Apple Pay or your Apple ID

Sign in with Apple

Sign in with Apple to sync your credits across devices and keep your purchase history.

  1. Go to Settings → Account
  2. Tap Sign in with Apple
  3. Your credits will sync automatically

Saving Credits

  • Use preconverted/cached audiobooks — they're 50% off
  • Check if a URL has already been converted before generating
  • LibriVox audiobooks are completely free

Tips & Tricks

Best Practices for File Organization

  • Put multi-chapter audiobooks in a single folder
  • Name files with chapter numbers (e.g., 01-Chapter1.mp3)
  • Use descriptive folder names for automatic metadata

Troubleshooting

Book not appearing?

  • Make sure files are in the Aubook folder
  • Try pulling down to refresh the library
  • Check that the file format is supported

Playback issues?

  • Try re-importing the file
  • Check if the file plays in other apps
  • Ensure sufficient storage space

Credits not showing?

  • Make sure you're signed in with Apple
  • Pull down on the Credits screen to refresh
  • Check your internet connection
